I have been blessed to have some truly incredible friends in my life. Both in high school and at university, I have been surrounded with intelligent, radical, wonderful, compassionate, and empathetic people who want to make the world a better place.
I met three women during my college's admitted students event who all fit that description. Through a funny series of events, they became my roommates my first year of Uni. They remain my close friends, and I cherish their love and friendship every day. The four of us then made connections with other women in our year, and today, I have a strong group of phenomenal women that I lean on when times are hard, and celebrate with when times are great.
This last year, I become more and more aware of, and open about,my love and fashion and style. Through starting this blog and Instagram, I became more vocal of my exploration of this creative medium. My friends have been supportive of all these endeavors. And, a couple weeks ago, a few of my wonderful ladies let me style them for a photo shoot with the AMAZINGLY talented Josie Bauman (INSTA: @coolestcanadian). The photos from the shoot are some of my favorites of all of us.
My concept was that each woman represented a colour and together we made a rainbow :) after all - friendship is the rainbow that often emerges from life's worst rainfalls. This was my first time every styling other people, and it was so fun. I just recently starting experimenting with makeup and so my looks are FAR from perfect. But I appreciate my ladies letting my explore my newfound passion on them!!!
Beautiful Bijah: Red
Bijah is wearing Theatricals red sleeveless, backless, leotard (that I bought on Amazon for a Baywatch costume, ayyy), tucked into a pair of Red and Navy ombre slit pants I bought in India. I tied the slits together at the bottom of the leg because I think the cropped cut with the side slit is flattering. Her shoes are Dankso heels that I recently got on sale with my Mama, and are my FAVE shoes of all time. I did her eyeshadow makeup with the Flormar "Pink Desserts" palate.
Marvelous Molly: Blue
Molly is wearing an off-the-shoulder blue top from Forever 21 that I bought while in Greece this summer. Her lace black shorts are Streetwear Society essentials, but I got them at the Goodwill. The necklace she is wearing is made recycled newspapers and magazines, and was given to me as a present from my father's partner, Karie (Thanks Karie!!). Her eyeshadow and lipstick are both Nyx cosemtics.
Ethereal Emily: Yellow
Em's lemon romper was one of those items that I bought and then didn't wear because it doesn't seem to fit just right on me. HOWEVER, on Emily, it looked INCREDIBLE. I have no idea where it is from, but I bought it at the Pass It On Thrift Store in Tahoe City, CA. It is so cute, and I recently sold it to the wonderful Maddy Read, who I hope will wear it much more than I did! Emily's lip colour is Burts Bees Napa Vineyard.
Me/ Kathryn: Green
My outfit was the hardest for me to put together because I have so little green clothing. My top is actually a bathing suit that I bought this summer (BEST BATHING SUIT I'VE EVER BOUGHT) on Amazon.com (LINK: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y4J888K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I wear it all the time, and it is supportive and form fitting. It makes me feel confident, and fun! I also bought my skirt on Amazon (yeeeears ago), and it is one I do not wear enough (LINK: https://www.amazon.com/QZUnique-Peacock-Feather-Vintage-Digital/dp/B01AP8ECJ6/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1507575338&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=peacock+feather+skirt&psc=1). I bought my shoes at Random, a consignment store in Squamish, BC, where I reside. My eyeshadow is a Sephora hand-me-down from my mother (that I don't know the name of ), and my lipstick is actually a Nyx dark blue lipstick with Sephora green eyeshadow on top. This is a prime example of me treating all makeup like it can go anywhere on my face! After all, I really don't know what I'm doing beyond experimentation!
PS. Halfway through the shoot Bijah took off her green watch and put it in my hair. It was such a random decision but made me LOVE my outfit 10x more.
